Many AMK Sers residents are discouraged by the high prices and uncertainty of the balloting process when applying for a new BTO flat in their area.
Some Ang Mo Kio residents said they will not consider applying for a flat in the ongoing BTO sales exercise, citing high prices and balloting uncertainty.
The 60-year-old retired businesswoman Chew Ye, whose Ang Mo Kio flat was selected for the Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (Sers), isn't sold on casting her ballot for a new flat in the same estate.
Ang Mo Kio's Central Weave @ Ang Mo Kio launched 896 two-room flexi flats, four-room and five-room BTO flats on Tuesday (Aug 30). Up to 10 percent of these flats will be allocated under the Resettlement, Relocation, Sers and Tenants' Priority Scheme, which includes Sers-affected residents.
Residents are also guaranteed a flat at a replacement site adjacent to ITE College Central as part of Sers rehousing benefits. I know I have a very low chance of getting a good ballot number. If I don't succeed, I'll probably be stuck with a low floor at the Sers replacement site," Madam Chew explained. In addition, one of my friends and I walked from the BTO location to Ang Mo Kio MRT station in 15 minutes, we had to cross many blocks and carparks, so I'm not interested in the BTO project," she said.
In Ang Mo Kio, some residents said they wouldn't apply for a flat in the ongoing BTO sales exercise due to high prices and balloting uncertainty.
Prices range from $198,000 to $292,000 for a two-room flexi, $535,000 to $676,000 for a four-room, and $720,000 to $877,000 for a five-room flat at Central Weave @ Ang Mo Kio. There are no three-bedroom apartments available.
Sers residents can expect to receive compensation ranging from $290,000 to $390,000 for a three-room flat and $380,000 to $450,000 for a four-room flat. Sers was chosen in April for Blocks 562 to 565 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, which comprised 606 households.
A 47-year-old resident, who requested anonymity, said she had not considered applying for the BTO project because she expected higher selling prices for the larger BTO flats due to the project's proximity to the MRT station.
Fred Lee, 73, a retired clerk, is among the minority of people who have decided on their new residence. He has filed for a two-room flexi apartment with a 30-year lease at the Ang Mo Kio BTO project since it is the most economical alternative that does not necessitate any additional payments.
"Of course, I'm worried that I won't receive a decent ballot number, but all I can do is hope for the best. In the worst-case scenario, I'll just return to the replacement location adjacent to the ITE "Mr. Lee stated.
